The radar image is from Southampton VTS (vessel traffic service). There are 3 scanners located at Hythe Pier, Calshot and Eastney. This is a processed image with targets overlaid on an outline of the land and navigation marks. VTS can tag targets with the vessels name. There are usually one or two ships on the image which are not on the AIS maps because they are not required to transmit AIS because of their size. Unlike the AIS maps, the image is just a jpg picture and is not clickable and it only updates every 10 minutes.
